Problem
Many independent artists are fearing AI taking over their field and have to fight for the protection of machines copying and profiting off their work. Nowadays, websites like Etsy that allow artists to sell their creations take a cut of their products, which already struggles artists. Not to mention that there is a disconnect between artists and consumers, as seen on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Solution
I designed a solution that can give independent artists peace of mind by allowing them to connect with other artists and art enthusiasts through a social platform that doubles as a shopping platform. Artists on X, for example, that have links to other websites that inspired me to design a two-in-one platform of shopping and socializing. The Pocket Atelier mobile app was designed to address these challenges.
Create Personas
The persona defined is based on my research and findings:
- Many artists fight against AI to keep art made by humans
- Even the smallest artist is capable of selling their art through either their audience with crowdfunding (such as Kickstarter)
- There is a lack of understanding of artists who draw and people who believe AI is superior
Based on these findings, I created three personas who are our target users
Lo-fi UI Design and Wireframe
Hi-fi Prototype
Final Reflection
After the course ended, I did not stop the project but continued improving the interface design, including contextual design, interactive prototype, and front-end tech spec.
